Tank Barbarians? D3

[:1]Hello there, heres a thing ive thought about, Seing as there is no healer class in diablo3 the usage of "tanks" will probably be very low in D3. Still barbarians have the choice to go a defensive build which includes a shield and a 1hander. Will this even serve any purpose except doing less dmg in pve? Why not make it so it is possible to play 5 or 6 players together but it would most of the time require a defensive build barbarian or overgeared players for the difficulty. cause i personally feel like 4 players at a time is really low. Just a thought but i actually think it could work well to promote the usage of "tank" barbarians cause i bet there is alot of people out there who would like to play them but decide not to if it serves no greater purpose.

And dont get me wrong, im not saying they should implement healers and make the game like every other mmorpg (i know D3 isnt one but you get the point). Im just saying that i hope they make it so it is actually useful and not something you can do if you want but it in the end it sucks so no one will.

Please give me your thoughts about this. Thanks!|||A tanky character should be capable of going in first to lure enemies around him in relative safety.

Look at his skills - Taunt + Ground Stomp will likely be an excellent way to round up and keep enemies still for your group.|||Quote:

I know you will be able to tank but my question is if it will be necessary or serve any purpose. I think going some fury or w/e build and just kill the monsters faster will be the best way to go. Atleast hope they will make tanks usefull on later levels/difficulties.|||I've often wondered something...

I know Fury is gained when you're hit as well, but would the damage being reduced mean less Fury gained? Do we know if it's based on monster damage, damage received, or a set amount?|||Wait, what's this "tank" stuff ?

Hope D3 will not be like wow, with "LF tank", else I can't do anything.|||First of all you should forget MMO type games, where there are fixed rles (tank, heal, CC) where the number of people in a party is fixed... Not this kind of game, much simpler.

So why take a tank when other builds will probably do more damage? Just to give some examples. First there are people who prefers characters that are slower but safer. You die less often but you are a bit slower at killing monsters. This is especially important if you are playing the hardcore mode where survival is the key.

In Diablo 2, using a shield was essential in PVP. With a shield you could avoid up to 75% of the incoming physical attacks. So many PVP builds revolve around using a shield and having this 75% chance of blocking damages. Now, in D3, shields will be less efficient to start with but perhaps, if you invest heavily in shields skills/traits, it will become nearly as efficient as in D2 at reducing incoming damages.

Finally, I like the look of a character with a nice shield |||If your health doesnt deplete as fast as in Diablo 2, a high dps build barbarian will be one of the better builds for PvE.

just my 2 cents|||Quote:

If abilities causes a set amount of fury like, 30 fury for ground stomp, 25 fury for battleshout I can it's safe to say that each hit will generate the same amount of fury, for an example 5 fury per hit taken. This is of course thinking in the lines of WoW, which I know is forbidden. But the system is to parallel to the warrior system that I think it'll be sorted that way.|||LF1M Tank + Healer for Ancients Run then GTG.
