mules and stash / great idea!...?

so we can hire mercenaries in D2.

how about in D3, we can hire helpers that carry equipment around with them?

think Raiders of the Lost Ark. in the opening scene Jones had about 3 helpers in his party. i can see these helpers go along for the ride (or they can stay in camp) and they can die just like mercs can in D2 (if they follow you into the action. they are programmed to stay out of harm's way but they might get attacked by a wandering monster), you just need to resurrect them later if you need anything from them.

or maybe, (if they die), your extra stash of items fall to the ground and you have to pick them up and resurrect the helper all over again.

each one beyond the first costs more. maybe you can hire a second one after 20 levels.

they are also able to equip low level armor. no weapons though.

thoughts? ideas? improvements?|||Yeah, I suggested that someplace else on here too

Several RPGs let party members share the burden. Starting with the infamous pack mule of Dungeon Siege.|||Heck, I would like to have unlimited share stash, why bother with mules.|||Quote:

I like the idea of limited storage space. the hireling idea gives a different play style to the game. almost like, an extra level of difficulty of trying to keep them alive.

or don't use them at all. it would be an option like the mercs.

maybe have both: a large storage chest like in D2 AND hired mules to travel with you. access the items from the mule while in the action and you'll have to wait until you get to a town to use the items in the chest.

i would absolutely love that aspect of the game|||In TQ you has caravans that give you additional space and ability to share goodies, it work great so why not in d3?|||I disagree. Hirelings would be fail. Besides the fact that a simple laborer wouldn't follow you into HELL, without a large party like in dungeon siege you couldn't fight the monsters and protect the guy at the same time.

Titan quest works great. A limited Shared stash.|||Quote:

you have a point there. no one would willingly follow someone into HELL. to fix that, maybe it costs more for a hireling each increasing act. maybe once a hireling is dead, you need to hire another one. each one costs more than the previous one due to a reputation your character has of not taking care of them.

i'm REALLY trying to justify the use of hirelings. if anyone doesn't like the idea, then they don't have to hire them. that's why i think it's a good idea to put them in.

if they aren't added into the game, it only hurts the people that wanted them. otherwise, it doesn't affect the game one way or the other if they aren't used. agree with that at least?

/and if it gets too troublesome to protect them, then don't hire anymore. your stash space would suffer...but that would be part of the game play!|||Quote:

Very simple, make them mercs who can carry lots of items with them and can still fight monsters ... but not as good as the other mercs who carry less items ... volia |||^^^ Hell, just give mercenaries their own small inventory. Nice idea.|||Quote:

It would be really nifty if along with the different types of mercs in each Act, you could also choose between them leaning more towards a pack mule or more towards a fighter. I'm sure a merc who could carry a bunch and heal you would be very popular.
