Busier towns - Page 5

I guess but i dont want the game to become like Guild Wars and World of Warcraft.

I haven't played Guild Wars, and my experience of WoW is limited, but from what I have seen, in WoW, there are a bunch of NPCs who just stand there in the same spot and don't move much. Some of them give you quests and some of them don't, but they are all quite static [aside from the town guards who wander along a path].

I think what this thread is trying to say is, we want bigger towns with MORE people who are actively moving around. Let's take Act 2 as an example: we have a few townsfolk who walk in a radius of maybe 10 ft maximum. There are others dotted around who sort of vaguely saunter about, but there is nothing to suggest that this is a bustling port city at all. Besides the limited NPCs, there are hardly any houses for a start. The most ridiculous thing in Lut Gholein has to be the palace. Ok, so maybe Lut is a very small town, but why does it have to have a socking great palace? I would expect a building of that size and caliber from a TOWN, not a hamlet! I don't mind so much NPCs who stand at their shops, but how about having townsfolk who stop at those shops to buy something? How about having a square with children playing, and some old guy busking. Make it feel like a real, lively town. When dusk approaches, each person could have a script which takes them off to a specific location, like inside their houses, or maybe to go stargazing on a nearby hill. Things like this would make the game feel much more immersive.

Kurast was more realistic, because it was HUGE [three whole maps of buildings] with a large temple-city [Travincal] at the end. The only thing that didn't make much sense was the way that the dock was miles away from the city's entrance.

The worst act by far was act 4, with the obligatory Cain following you, but other than that, THREE other NPCs, one of whom gives a quest and has dialogue, and two almost pointless characters who didn't say anything whatsoever and were only there to provide the player with means to buy potions and repair equipment.

Act 5 was actually pretty good. Of course, it had the standard NPCs, but it had some life too, with a barb even roasting a rabbit on a spit. It was great how you could come across the other barbs and help them out when fighting in the field. However, it does still suffer somewhat from staticness and just not enough life.

I hope they'll iron this out in D3.|||Yeah I'm really hoping that D3 will have larger more lively towns in it. Haven't gotten that far into Sacred 2 yet but it does a pretty good job with this. They've been kind of hinting that there will be some large scale battles and after seeing the concepts of the towns I'll be disappointed if they turn out to be small.|||Thanks man!

You really expressed perfectly one of my wishes for the game! i see diablo staff talking a lot about keeping the pace of the game fast (it is obviously important, not saying it isnt), but i really think its incredibly important to make the universe of diablo realistic. Like you said, D2 just seemed to have some npcs and that was all. After playing the game for a while, i found myself worshiping all the single aspects in towns, and remembering how it felt on the first time i played to be inside the game, to feel the story.

This time I hope some of the bigger towns are full of people walking around going about their daily business. And maybe they could even hold seasonal festivals and do different things during different times of the day. Some of them may even travel town to town in order to find different items to buy/sell. Just a thought.

This goes allong with my one lish wish for D3:

As much diversity as possible.

Just to finish. Once again the one line wish for community. Make some pool for people to vote on the best ideias for the game! it reflects the fans wishes, and we should show them in a simpler way to blizzard staff while they are still making the game!
