Smart Mercenary's - Page 2

[:1]I wasn't a real fan of mercs in D2 either. There were only 2 real options (MAYBE the cold damage casters helped if for some bizarre reason you lacked some crowd control... but that's a stretch) and both of those were just faked, undergeared and underskilled copies of player characters. So, instead of fixing pointless design changes (like synergies pigeonholing characters into very narrow builds) all mercs really did was make hunts for overpowered gear more common.

At the very least, there should be options to determine where a merc will stand and how stupid they will be. "Stay close to me and don't pick a fight with that siege beast guy" would be a nice start. Maybe even the option to leave them in town for certain death... i mean... boss fights.

Still, heroes should be epic enough on their own, we don't need to babysit flunkies.|||Quote:

Well said. I'm not a fan of mercs either. I kinda don't mind how they were done before the expansion, where you could go hire one as a distraction to help with a particularly nasty boss (my fav was using the desert mercs to go take the first hit from Duriel pre-lod). Thas was still sorta cheap tho, I mean it's supposed to be a hero went out and took down the prime evils, not a hero+Waheed.|||I think mercs are okay although dumb they are pretty much meant as a distraction. Now without the instant tps in D3, all the time it should make them what they were truely meant to do: Help then DIE . I think with a lot of the runeword aura weapons in D2 it made some of the other skills pretty obsolete or made a certain character stronger then it needs to be.
