Need / Greed Loot System

One of my pet peeves while playing D2 is the simplicity of Loots. The monsters / bosses just drop the loot on the floor, and it's a case of fastest clicks first.

Granted, you can play with friends top minimize the risks of being 'ninjaed' but sometimes there are times where you have to go 'pubbing'.

If there could be a sort of loot system for D3 (Similar to WoW Need/Greed/Pass loot rules) i think that would be great!|||We will have individual loot. If you can see it, it's your loot.|||Quote:

I must have missed it somewhere, how does this individual loot work? How does it determine if it's yours? Will the engine be utilizing the Suicide Kings like method of individual loot?|||They haven't told us the exact mechanics, just that it will be completely random drops, I believe including the potential for someone to get no drops while others did.|||ah, I hope they do get it right. Thanks for the info, Keighvin!|||hopefully this loot system will determine that which characters should properly receive each item. I would hate it if the caster drops were evenly split for other none casters in the group.

example for 3 party team of wizard, barbarian, witch doc:

wizard specific item drop - 90% wizard, 5% barbarian, 5% witch doctor

more general caster item drop - 45% wizard, 10% barbarian, 45% witch doctor

same item while wizard has 50% magic find - 72.5% wizard, 5% barbarian, 22.5 % witch doctor (or some sort of scaling)

Or something like that.|||No, that's not how it will work. Completely random. That's what Diablo games are known for.|||Quote:

Wouldn't that largely defeat the purpose of trading and co-op play? That's to say nothing of the fact that getting drops that are more likely to be suited to your class would make it that much easier to gear up and in turn diminish the gratification of upgrading. On one last note, what if the game just happened to drop a lot of stuff for one class so the character playing that class got all sorts of loot while the other players got squat? There are reasons why D3 and games like it use random loot, it's fair.|||Quote:

This may effect trading, depends on the gear I suppose. This just makes co-op play a little easier in PUGs since you won't have to bargain to get gear another player can't use any way.

How do you figure this? This would mean that to gear up your character, you would actually have to play with them. Doesn't seem to complex to me.

That's called random, and it happens sometimes. If the Wizard received all of the barbarians items that dropped, and the barbarian didn't gain any items at all, how is this any different?

So completely random has been confirmed?

It's not "fair", it's just another way of doing things, luck is luck any way you slice it.|||Drops are completely random, no matter your class.

Any other information is simply wrong.
