Crafting

It would be nice to be able break down "junk" items into the based "materials".

Like many other RPGs, such Guild Wars or HGL (Hellgate:London as I have mentioned before).

Crafting in D2 was fun but not really deep. We had to horde junk jewels, low runes and Pgems. Then we had to hunt down the "perfect" blue item to roll our crafts. That was not very deep.

To make it deep, a better crafting system should be more like HGL, where if you find something you not ever gonna use, you should be able to right click the item icon and select "break down" or "deconstruct" or whatever and you should get a roll at a chance of breaking/deconstructing it into usable materials.

Those items should stack in your inventory and we should be allowed, like in GW, to have a large, separate, crafting materials storage just like GW.

So I want to see the wide variety, depth and storability of crafted items like in GW and the simple "right-click to select break down" interface of HGL.

Also, collecting base materials could be a new way that we are able to "repair" our items. Just like a real smithy would need, you'd have to bring him some metals to repair your sword. You should have to bring him leather and iron to repair your "iron studded leather armor".

If that doesn't sound appealing then just use the system described above so we can "upgrade" our items. There shouldn't be an infinite upgrade though, you should get three rolls max on each item.

We should be able to obtain "rare" and "unique" crafting materials from breaking down rare and unique items. Set items should NOT be allowed to be broken down. This would allow us to "save" our rolls on our upgrades for when we actually have those high quality items. And again, it shouldn't be a guarantee that you would get one on your first roll, you should only have a %chance to roll a good "break down". This would also help keep the economy clear of lower quality uniques and rares and drive up the price of "perfect uniques", as most people who craft would seek out the most perfect uniques with which to decide to "break down or NOT break down".

This opens up a LOT of trading possibilities for people. A LOT more then just saying "I have 40 junk jewels" or "40 PRubies".
