Mercs

I would like them to change the merc system in d3.

I doubt that im the only one annoyed by the current mercs.

They require you to get more expensive gear, they die wich is annoying but we still need them, and i dont like that kind of dependency.

So i was thinking, what if in D3 we didnt have these mercs?

Instead we could hire NPC's that behaved more like actual mercs and not companions. Im thinking of some warriors that you pay some gold for and they fight until they die or you quit.

You could hire 5-10 (though they shouldnt be cheap) and theyre good for helping out in specific situations where you have problems on your own.

You wouldnt be able to equip or modify them at all, since they're temporary.

I think it would be a pretty cool feature, what do you guys think?|||I would argue that you actually need mercs in D2. They are a help, but it's not like you can't do it without them.

That said, it is an interesting idea you have although 5-10 of them seems to much. But I fail to see how you would feel less annoyed by this when they die, it basically the same thing. And when you enter a game you'll need to hire more everytime, so I also fail to see how that is an improvement.|||I always hated mercs. I only like the idea of having them for those playing SP. Cuz some parts can be hard alone.

I personally hope there are no mercs in d3. The only thing I WOULD like is npcs similar to the Barbs in the foothills. You could ignore them if you wanted, or you could fight with them and get 2-5 together and have a little army of sorts. They don't follow you, they have their own agenda, they're just there to fight beside.|||blikst: the number 5-10 is just a random number i came up with.

The only thing that decides if thats too many or not is how strong they would be.

The reason you wouldnt be annoyed by their death is due to the fact that you only hire them temporarily. Perhaps to get some help in an area where your character is weak, or dealing with a tough boss.

Their price would prevent you from hiring them every game your in.

They wouldn't be some super soldiers, merely a bit of help, expensive help tough.|||I just remember they had something similar in the game play trailer. After the barb meet Cain, the commentator states that by clicking on the two mercs, they will follow you and fight by your side. You could expand on something like that. Like in Act 5 in D2 you could have clicked on the barbarians that are out there in the fields fighting and they would have followed you around and fight with you that session. Perhaps they have planned on doing this for quests like in the trailer, but you could do it in larger game play as well.|||Quote:

It's a huge temptation to hire a merc in D2 even if you think you would like to make it without.. think about a sorc with act2 freeze merc.. equipped with the manaregen runeword..

Not only you get unlimited mana, you also slow down the monsters big time..

I'd take anything else instead of d2 system.. preferably no mercs at all.. we are the heroes!|||Quote:

The 'mercs' in D3 are nothing close to what they were in D2. In D3, there will be NPC's that follow you around that you can hire. They have better AI, but they mainly just assist you. You won't see anything like expensive mercenaries in D2 with imba auras. Just an NPC that follows you around. The magic should be in your character, and your character alone, not a 2nd sub-character that you gotta' worry about.
