The death of waypoints!

In Diablo we saw stairways to catacombs and even Hell itself. In Diablo II we saw waypoints introduced. Not a bad idea but the idea of waypoints built in some of the most absurd places disturbed me. No NPC's really refered to them or anything. PCs were the only people to notice them?

I'd like to see a better, more though transport system in Diablo III. Perhaps something like an escort by a caravan like Wariv.

Suggestions people?|||I read somewhere that the waypoints were put in place long ago by the NPCS to easily get around. However, I agree with you; I'm not sure why they put waypoints in Hell. Right next to Diablo's sanctuary.!!!

I think the waypoints are a necessary evil to breakup the game. I don't quit and save until I've reached the next waypoint.

But maybe they could make it a statue or shrine or something that you touch and it teleports you to town vs a waypoint.|||In terms of transports, I think it would be kewl to actually witness the transportation itself instead of going to a load screen. it would make the game more fluid. at least that's my opinion.
