Improved graphics - Page 2

i dont know **** about steam but isnt steam only used by cs palyers or something more maybe...and cs is low end...thats why every1 has lowend computers...??

Steam collects data from the client application installed on every user who uses Steam to buy, play, or organize games. Which is essentially everyone who uses Steam (and who agreed to let their computer data be used for statistical analysis). Not just from the multiplayer platform.|||Yes, Steam includes Half Life 2, Left 4 Dead, Counter Strike Source, not to mention the classic CS, Half-Life and a ton of other stuff you can download.

I'm thinking someone will say, "Hey aren't those games old enough to play on my 386?"

The answer is, NO. The settings can be toned down to where it'll play on an older system or a couple-year-old laptop if your lucky, but overall you need an average to decent computer to play them well.

I would think that the Steam statistics should be a good indicator of what the average gamer is running.

Also, Blizzard knows what they're doing, thinking the ALPHA footage we've seen isn't high enough quality is a bit insane. They'll have high end settings and low.|||Quote:

Yes, but the question is. How substantial will they make the difference between the highest and the lowest. they could make the highest settings still not decent enough for most people to consider it being High at all.

So we will have to see what they do. If they are smart. they will make the lowest setting for the mainstream and the highest setting for the enthusiasts (as apposed to, the lowest setting set for those who are falling behind the times, and the highest setting for the mainstream). to me, that would be fair.|||Hmm... Steam also includes many other games not developed by Valve. It's a Content Delivery system. Many companies put their games up for sale on Steam as well as on stores.

Any game you buy from steam, playes through Steam. But Steam is not a game server. Or not just a game server. All my "Steam games" I play in single-play mode, for instance. It's irrelevant to Steam how I play the game.

There's currently somewhere around 25 million Steam user accounts. All playing all types of games, from the most modern to the oldest. Steam Hardware Survey is perhaps the most complete survey in existence. And it is used by all sorts of computer games developing companies, including Valve.|||A graphics slider is the solution to this problem, the low-end users can minimize the settings...|||I'll hold my criticism of graphics quality until the beta or some more finalized version of the product is available, but I would only hope for a few graphics settings for the sake of the general community.|||As long as the graphics aren't lego like (ala WC3) I'm good.

I can't sympathize with the ones who want it to be only available on their wtfpwnbbq computers. Not everyone has extra money to throw around, whether or not they want to play Diablo. Just add a slider, it'll be fine and fair for all.|||Quote:

My suggestions nature lies in the improvement of the iablo III graphics...i mean, the ones that really want to play Diablo III but dont have a computer good enough should get a new one, besides Diablo isnt nearly as good looking as crysis but crysis is fantasticly optimzed so that you can play it on a regular/half-old computer. I absolutely dont mean D3 looks bad but it would be awsome if they could pump up the graphics a few levels. They make it easily playable for old computers with these graphics (except the Havok physics) so that more people will play the game, but if the buff up the graphics i think more ppl will want to play the game anyway and the majority of these ppl have computers that can manage high quality games. No offense, i luv D3 but id like a graphics improvement. But maybe all this is unnecessary and they will do it anyway, like the improvements in Diablo II from the first gameplay trailer to what it is now.

I don't really need people online that won't buy D3 unless the graphics get better. They're great already. Also how exactly would you want the graphics to be better?|||well, i think the graphics are AWSOME but id want them to be EVEN BETTER cuz my system can handle it...but that sounds selfish...||| blizzard could not make their game support high end computers in the future even if they tried.

the current max in consumer released cpus are made by AMD at 12 cores in one processor. they are working on 16 core processors for the server market at this moment. Intel has made an prototype chip with 80 cores.

a 64 bit AMD system can make use of up to 256TB that it can use for virtual memory while its physical limits are 4 PB.

How anyone thinks blizzard or for that matter any gaming company would be able to plan ahead for how much further technology has come in 3-5 years is beyond me.

really do a time travel and find some computer magazine from 5 years ago and check the specs on those machines

Besides what is considered mainstream is also affected by the country you live in, your work etc.

2GB may be mainstream for many but my little crap laptop has 4GB ram as a minimum and 8GB as maximum and it cant even handle my computer lab tests.

4GB ram is the bare minimum for the things i work with in a test environment(Exchange 2010).

When sandy bridge E(Intel) and Bulldozer(AMD) is released 2011-2012 i will build a new computer as i do every 3-5 year. Many do as i do and that is one of the reasons why the steam survey is utter crap.

BY 2011-2012 when diablo 3 is most likely to be released the mainstream processors will be 4 cores, with 8 to 12 cores being the choice for people like myself that also use the computer for other things then gaming.

The new memory controllers of these processors is rumored to handle four channel ddr3 ram and with most motherboards having 6 dimm slots you could possible fill them all with 4GB sticks since the 16GB and 32GB ram sticks has already been released now and the prizes will probably drop further until 2011-2012.

so that is 24GB ram on a none sever computer for a high end user by 2011-2012.

Face the fact game companies cant keep up with the fast development of tech. Therefor they are very very unlikely to even try to match what is top of the line now much less so when diablo 3 is released.

Besides the only game that i know of that is said to be able to make use of more then 4 cores i crysis 2(said to support 8 cores) and its not even released yet.
